President - Brad Sawyer '20
Brad is a junior majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in finance. He joined the fund as a sophomore where he served as a senior analyst for two semesters. He recently completed a summer as a wealth management intern at Morgan Stanley in Frederick, MD. Brad is a Captain of the Hood College baseball team and is a member of the Hood College honors program. He plans to pursue a career in investment-banking post graduation.
Vice President - Mark Searles '19
Mark Searles is currently a senior who double majors in Accounting and Economics concentrating in International Economics. He joined the fund as a senior and is currently the Vice President. He is a tax preparation intern at Hildebrand Limparis and Associates. He spent his summer as an intern at the Maryland Office of Legislative Audits. In addition, Mark is the finance chair for Hood College’s Student Government Association, where he oversees the budgets for the entire school’s organizations and clubs. He is looking for a position in accounting or finance post-graduation.
CFO - Eliza Funk '20
Eliza Funk is majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in finance. She is the treasurer for the local non-profit, Children of Incarcerated Parents Partnership. After graduation, she plans to enter the financial sector as an advisor and continue her volunteer work.
Advisor - Matt McGreevy
Matt McGreevy, Financial Advisor and Vice President at Morgan Stanley, started his career in the securities industry in 1997 and joined forces with Hunt Hendrickson in 1998.
His focus for the group includes Asset Allocation, Company Retirement Plans, and Tailored Portfolios.
Matt holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) and is also active in the community. He currently holds, and has held in the past, various positions in the Carroll Creek Rotary Club, The Frederick County Family YMCA, The Community Foundation of Frederick County, Monocacy Valley Goodwill, and The City of Frederick Parks Commission
CIO - Tyler Volentine'19
Tyler Volentine is currently a Senior who is majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. He has worked in the technology and communications industry for 5 years. Tyler is a member of the Hood College baseball team, a MAC Honor Role recipient, and a member of the Delta Mu Delta and Phi Theta Cappa Honors societies. After graduation, he plans to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration and start his own business.
Faculty Advisor - Dr. Li
Dr. Li earned his Ph.D. in finance from University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 2009. He has been working at Hood College since then. He is currently the associate professor of finance and the MBA program director at Hood College. He is also the faculty advisor of the Hood College Blazing Alpha Fund. His research interests include capital structure, ownership structure, market efficiency, and entrepreneurship. He has published in Journal of Accounting and Finance, International Journal of Business, Journal of Private Enterprise, and Journal of Business and Economics. He is also the reviewer for Contemporary Economic Policy, Journal of Financial Research, and International Journal of Business.
Portfolio Risk Manager= - Joe Kroeger ‘20
Joe Kroeger is a junior majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in finance. He joined the fund as a junior and was elected Portfolio Risk Manager. He is a Hood College student athlete, and is a MAC Honor Role recipient. He plans on looking into investment research or financial advising as a career path post graduation.
