History and Mission

The Blazing Alpha Fund was founded in 2016; however, it was not until January 27th of 2017 that the first investment made. Since its inception, the fund's mission has been to generate out-performance, build the endowment, and educate students with practical application in investments. The fund seeks to blend classroom knowledge with real-world experience in the capital markets. The experience obtained will further the mission of the College, and give students an advantage when transitioning into the workforce. The skills and tools used and developed in the fund are those that students will use at the next level.

The fund is located within the Virginia Munson Hammel '67 Trading Room which was completed in the summer of 2015. Funding for this room was secured through a lead gift from alumna Virginia Munson Hammell ‘67 and gifts from Janet Hobbs Cotton ‘59 and her husband John, Susan Edmiston ’87, Robert Hooper, Neal Wilson and Frederick County Bank.
